Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market
Beginnings
In the 1980’s, Fresno State agriculture students set up a small fruit stand selling excess fruits and vegetables on the corner of Barstow and Chestnut Ave. Dairy processing soon followed suit and began selling ice cream from a portable freezer that was powered by a long extension cord.
Moving into the first building, Fresno State students could see their hard work and dedication to their education be enjoyed by the local community like never before. With each passing year the market was able to expand to include every aspect of the university farm, including food processing, meat science, floral and the horticulture department.
